CHANGE: A Movement for Non-Toxic Apparel

Toxic stuff is everywhere now.

In our food. In our air. In our homes. In our products.

But one day I had to ask myself a question I honestly never thought about before:

Could it be in our clothes too?

I know that sounds dramatic at first, but think about it. We check food labels. We check ingredients in skincare. We try to watch what we put on our babies. But most of us are not checking the tag inside a shirt, a pair of pajamas, or some leggings.

I know I wasn’t.

I used to shop like most people. Is it cute? Is it soft? Is it on sale? Does it fit? Cool. Add to cart.

I was not thinking about what the fabric was actually made of. I definitely was not thinking about how long that fabric would be sitting on my daughter’s skin.

Then I started noticing something.

Polyester was everywhere.

Pajamas. Underwear. Activewear. Kids’ clothes. Bedding. The “soft” stuff. The “stretchy” stuff. The “breathable” stuff.

And once I learned that polyester is basically a plastic-based fabric made from petroleum, I could not look at clothes the same way.

Like wait.

Are we really wearing plastic?

And not just wearing it. Sleeping in it. Sweating in it. Dressing our babies in it. Working out in it. Letting it sit on our skin all day and night.

That is what started CHANGE.

Not because I wanted to scare people. Not because I think everybody needs to throw their whole closet away tomorrow. And definitely not because I think I know everything.

I started this because I’m a mother who was trying to figure out why my child’s skin kept reacting.

I started this because I had questions.

And the more I asked, the more I realized a lot of us have never been taught to think about our clothes this way.

Cotton, hemp, bamboo lyocell, silk, linen, wool, and other natural fabrics have been around forever. They are not new. We just live in a time where fast fashion and cheap synthetic materials have become so normal that we barely question them anymore.

But I think it is time we start questioning.

Not from fear.

From awareness.

Because once you know better, you really do start choosing better.

Food labels changed the way we eat.

Maybe clothing labels can change the way we dress.
